Who we are

The Jamaica Dragon Boat Festival is a vibrant cultural and sporting event hosted by the Chinese Benevolent Association (est. 1891) in partnership with the Jamaica Dragon Boat Federation (JDBF). Rooted in centuries-old Chinese tradition, dragon boating is a dynamic team water sport that combines athleticism, community, and cultural heritage.

Our mission is to foster cross-cultural understanding by celebrating the rich history of Chinese traditions in Jamaica, with a special focus on the exhilarating sport of dragon boating. Through this festival, we aim to unite communities, promote wellness through sport, and offer an unforgettable cultural experience for all participants and spectators.

Whether you're paddling in the race or cheering from the shore, the Jamaica Dragon Boat Festival invites everyone to dive into the spirit of teamwork, celebration, and multicultural exchange. It’s more than a race — it’s a bridge between cultures, a tribute to heritage, and a showcase of unity through sport.

What is dragon boat racing

What is dragon boat racing

Dragon boating is a unique team sport that has a special ability to bring entire communities together through the broad range of participants accepted on dragon boat teams.

Any swimmer over 14 years old with no special skill can get involved.

It requires team members to paddle in complete synchrony as one unit to the beating of a drum in the bow of the boat.

The sport is beneficial for all, not just as a physical activity, but as a team-building activity for corporations and organizations.
